Ingredients
  

For the custard

  • 2 cups milk Use whole milk for creaminess.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter Adds richness.

For the tart

  • 1 pre-made tart shell Can also use homemade.
  • Assorted fresh fruits (like strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, etc.) Mix seasonal selections for color.

Instructions
 

Preparation of the Custard

  • In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth.
  • Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to temper the eggs.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  • Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla extract and butter until smooth.
  • Pour the custard into the pre-made tart shell and smooth the top. Allow it to cool, then refrigerate until set.

Topping the Tart

  • Once set, top with assorted fresh fruits before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, use fresh, high-quality ingredients. Add the fruits just before serving to keep them fresh. Optional: Garnish with a mint leaf or powdered sugar.
