Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs Can substitute with applesauce or flaxseed mixture.
  • 1 cup whole milk At room temperature.
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water Batter will be thin.

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup butter, softened Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cups heavy cream
  • to taste red food coloring Adjust for desired color.
  • Heart-shaped decorations (optional) For decoration.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Carefully stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin).
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then remove from pans to cool completely on wire racks.

Frosting

  • For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cream, mixing until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add red food coloring to achieve the desired color.
  • Frost the cooled cakes and decorate with heart-shaped decorations if desired.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or refrigerate for about a week. Let come to room temperature before serving.
