Ingredients
  

For the Pastry

  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry Thawed according to package directions

For the Filling

  • 4 oz cream cheese At room temperature
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring For coloring the filling
  • 1/2 cup diced strawberries Fresh or thawed if frozen

For the Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp cold water

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Thaw the puff pastry sheet according to package directions, either on the counter for about 2 hours or in the fridge overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Making the Filling

  • In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, white sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add a few drops of red food coloring to give it a lovely pink hue.

Assembling the Danishes

  • Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter or knife.
  • Place the hearts on the prepared baking sheet and add a dollop of the cream cheese filling in the center of each heart, then sprinkle with diced strawberries.

Finishing Touch

  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg and cold water together, then brush the edges of each heart with the egg wash.
  • Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the pastries are golden and puffed. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve these danishes warm or at room temperature, optionally dusted with powdered sugar. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, reheat in the oven before serving.
