  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this dry blend into the butter and sugar mixture until smooth.
  • Roll the dough into small balls and coat them in colored sugar.
  • Place the dough balls on ungreased baking sheets and flatten them slightly, making a small indentation in the center of each.
  • Bake for about 10-12 minutes until lightly golden.
  • Let them cool on wire racks before filling the indentations with frosting or candy.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For best flavor, consume filled cookies within a few days. Leftover dough can be refrigerated or frozen.
