Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups Japanese short grain rice (rinsed and soaked) Enhances gelatinous quality for sticky texture.
  • 3 tablespoons Japanese ‘Kewpie’ mayonnaise Adds creaminess.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For sautéing.
  • 3 cloves garlic (finely chopped) For flavor.
  • 1.5 tablespoons soy sauce For umami depth.
  • 2 large eggs (lightly whisked) For richness.
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped parsley For garnish.
  • Sea salt To taste.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Prepare the rice by rinsing and soaking it for at least 30 minutes; drain and set aside.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet or wok, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the garlic until it becomes golden brown.
  • Add the soaked rice to the skillet, breaking apart any clumps while stirring well to coat in the garlic butter.
  • Pour the soy sauce over the rice and mix thoroughly, followed by pushing the rice to one side of the skillet.
  • Pour the whisked eggs into the empty side and stir gently until just set; then fold into the rice.
  • Incorporate the Kewpie mayonnaise, stirring to blend the creamy sauce throughout the rice.
  • Season with sea salt to taste and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For best presentation, serve in individual bowls garnished with parsley. Pair with pickles or miso soup for added flavor.
