Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine (Sangiovese or Tempranillo)
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup triple sec
  • 1/3 cup frozen lemonade concentrate let sit at room temperature if too firm
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 medium lemon, sliced into rounds
  • 1 medium lime, sliced into rounds
  • 1 medium orange, sliced into rounds
  • 8 pieces maraschino cherries
  • 2 cups carbonated water (add just before serving)
  • as needed cups Ice for serving

Optional Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar only if you want it sweeter
  • as needed cups extra fruit (berries, peach slices, apple slices)
  • as needed sprigs fresh herbs (mint for a fresher aroma)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the lemon, lime, and orange into thin rounds.
  • If your lemonade concentrate is very firm, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes so it’s easier to mix.

Mixing / Assembling

  • In a large pitcher or bowl, stir together red wine, brandy, triple sec, frozen lemonade concentrate, orange juice, and lemon juice.
  • Taste and decide if you want the optional sugar. If adding sugar, stir until fully dissolved.
  • Add the citrus slices and maraschino cherries. Stir gently to distribute.

Chilling / Flavor Building

  • You can serve right away over ice, but for best flavor, cover and chill for 8 hours, or up to overnight. This resting time helps the citrus oils and fruit flavors mingle with the wine.

Finishing

  • Right before serving, stir in 2 cups carbonated water for a lighter, bubbly lift.
  • Serve in glasses over ice, making sure each glass gets a few fruit slices.

Notes

Chill the sangria overnight for the best flavor. Avoid adding carbonated water too early to prevent it from going flat. Serve over plenty of ice to keep it cold.
