Ingredients

For the glaze

  • 1/4 cup real maple syrup For the best flavor
  • 1/4 cup bourbon whiskey Adds depth and smokiness
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce For umami and balance
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Adds a tangy kick
  • 2 cloves garlic Minced for savory notes

For the salmon

  • 4 pieces salmon fillets About 6 oz each – wild-caught preferred
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For cooking

Optional garnishes

  • sesame seeds For garnish
  • chopped green onions For garnish
  • lemon wedges For serving

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, whisk together maple syrup, bourbon, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and garlic to make the glaze.
  • Pat salmon fillets dry, then brush generously with the glaze. Let sit for 10 minutes to absorb flavor.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sear the fillets for several minutes on each side until cooked through.
  • Alternatively, preheat the oven to 400°F and bake the salmon for 12 to 15 minutes until flaky.

Serving

  • Brush the cooked salmon with any remaining glaze and garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and serve warm.

Notes

Avoid overcrowding the skillet to achieve a perfect sear. Serve with sides like jasmine rice or roasted vegetables.
