  • 6 strips bacon, diced Crisp bacon adds flavor.
  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped Adds sweetness and depth.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances flavor.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided Feel free to swap for other cheeses.
  • 4 large eggs Acts as a binder for the casserole.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream For creaminess.
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard Adds tanginess.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Enhances umami flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper To taste.
  • Chopped green onions and diced tomatoes Optional, for garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the diced bacon over medium heat until it is crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the grease in the skillet.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until the onion becomes translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess grease.
  • Stir in the cooked bacon and let the mixture cool slightly.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.

Assembly and Baking

  • Spread the beef mixture evenly in a greased 8x8-inch baking dish.
  • Layer 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the beef.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the top, letting it soak into the ingredients.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the cheese is golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving, garnished with green onions and tomatoes if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage. Reheat before serving.
