Ingredients
  

For the Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

For the Sausage Gravy

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add the buttermilk and stir until just combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, and roll out to about 1 inch thick. Cut into biscuit shapes.
  • Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Cooking the Gravy

  • In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Remove and drain excess fat.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the milk, cooking until thickened, and season with salt and pepper.

Serving

  • Serve the sausage gravy over the warm biscuits.

Notes

For best results, use cold ingredients for flaky biscuits. Customize gravy seasoning to taste.
