  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup Use maple syrup for a vegan option.
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In another bowl, combine melted coconut oil, honey (or maple syrup), applesauce, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until combined.

Baking

  • Shape the dough into small balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Finishing Touch

  • While the churro bites are baking, mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  • Once baked, let them cool for a few minutes, then roll the churro bites in the sugar mixture before serving.
