  • 1 pound ground beef Choose high-quality beef for the best flavor.
  • 1 pound ground pork Pork adds moisture to the meatballs.
  • 1 onion, finely chopped Enhances flavor.

  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped Use fresh parsley for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped Mint offers a fresh taste.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano A key Mediterranean herb.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Freshly ground is best.
  • 1 large egg Bind the meatball mixture.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Use plain or Italian seasoned.

For the Sauce

  • 1/2 cup lemon juice Freshly squeezed lemon juice preferred.
  • 1/4 cup olive oil For frying and flavor.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, onion, garlic, parsley, mint, oregano, salt, pepper, egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix well until fully combined.
  • Shape the mixture into small meatballs.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
  • In a separate saucepan, combine lemon juice with a bit of water and simmer to create a sauce.
  • Serve the meatballs with lemon sauce drizzled on top, accompanied by rice, pita, or salad.

Notes

Keftedes can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before cooking. For a lighter option, consider baking them instead of frying.
