  • 2 cups flour For dredging the onion rings.
  • ¼ cup corn starch
  • 1 Tbsp granulated garlic Adds flavor to the batter.
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder Enhances onion flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper For seasoning.
  • 4 quarts vegetable oil For frying.
  • 1 quart buttermilk For soaking the onions.
  • Salt to taste Salt

Dipping Sauces

  • 3 oz Garlic aioli For dipping.
  • 3 oz hot and sweet BBQ Sauce For dipping.

Preparation

  • Begin by slicing the onions into rings, ensuring they are thick enough to hold their shape during frying.
  • Soak the sliced onion rings in buttermilk for at least one hour.
  • In a separate bowl, mix flour, corn starch, granulated garlic, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.

Cooking

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot until hot.
  • Dredge the soaked onion rings in the flour mixture until coated.
  • Fry the onion rings in batches for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove the fried onion loaf from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Serve the Giant Onion Loaf hot with garlic aioli and BBQ sauce on the side.

Notes

Allow leftovers to cool completely before storing in an airtight container. They can last in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
