  • 1.5 cups dry long grain white rice or jasmine rice, rinsed and drained well
  • 2.5 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 1.5 Tbsp minced garlic
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter, cut into 1 tablespoon pieces
  • 1 Tbsp minced fresh parsley (optional) For garnish

Preparation

  • Prepare a large saucepan and melt butter over medium heat, allowing it to shimmer and coat the bottom of the pan.
  • Add finely chopped yellow onion to the melted butter and sauté until soft and golden.
  • Add minced garlic and stir quickly for aroma, making sure not to scorch.
  • Pour in the chicken broth, season with salt and pepper, then bring to a rolling boil.
  • Carefully add rinsed rice, stirring gently to distribute, then cover with a lid.
  • Reduce heat to the lowest setting and let simmer for 15-18 minutes.
  • Once done, remove from heat and let the rice rest for 5-10 minutes.
  • Add remaining butter and fluff the rice with a fork.
  • Transfer to a serving dish and optionally garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

To enhance flavors, consider experimenting with broth types or adding vegetables like bell peppers. Adjust seasoning at end of cooking for best taste. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
