Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup 1 cup extra-sharp cheddar, freshly grated
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp 1 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 8 tbsp 8 tbsp unsalted butter, divided & frozen (or chilled 30 min)
  • 1 cup 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, cheddar, baking powder, garlic powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Grate 6 tbsp frozen butter into the bowl, tossing as you go to prevent clumps.
  • Stir in milk until a shaggy dough forms.

Folding and Cutting

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface, shape into a rectangle about 1 inch thick. Fold over, press down, reshape. Repeat folding about 3 more times.
  • Use a 3-inch cutter and press straight down to cut out biscuits, avoiding twisting the cutter. Place on the tray. Gather scraps gently and cut remaining biscuits.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For best results, keep all ingredients cold and avoid overworking the dough. Consider serving with various sauces or as part of a larger meal.
