Easy Halloween Dirt Cups

These Halloween dirt cups layer creamy chocolate pudding with crushed Oreos and gummy worms for a dessert that’s as playful as it is easy. A little Cool Whip lightens the pudding, while the cookie crumbs add crunch and create the chocolate “dirt” on top. Three gummy worms peek out of each cup for a simple spooky finish.

Equipment

  • Four clear dessert cups
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatula
  • Measuring cups
  • Food processor, or zip-top bag and rolling pin
  • Spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 3.9 oz package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk or the amount specified on the pudding package
  • ½ cup Cool Whip thawed
  • 15 Oreo cookies crushed into crumbs (about 1½ cups)
  • 12 gummy worms

Instructions

  • Crush the whole Oreos in a food processor, or use a sealed zip-top bag and rolling pin. Leave a few small chunks.
  • Whisk the pudding mix with the cold milk, following the package directions for mixing and setting.
  • Gently fold in the thawed Cool Whip until evenly combined.
  • Divide half the pudding among four clear cups. Sprinkle a little Oreo crumb into each, then add the remaining pudding.
  • Cover the tops with the remaining crumbs to create the chocolate “dirt.”
  • Decorate each cup with three gummy worms, tucking some partly into the crumbs. Serve chilled.
  • Make-ahead tip: Refrigerate the pudding mixture in covered cups and add the crumbs and gummy worms just before serving.
  • Optional decoration: Add an oval cookie with “RIP” written in icing for an edible gravestone.

Notes

Timing: Thaw frozen Cool Whip in the refrigerator beforehand; thawing is not included in the five-minute prep time.
