Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs Free-range eggs recommended for best flavor.
  • 230 ml milk You can use whole or low-fat milk.
  • 8 slices thick-cut bread Challah, brioche, or Texas toast works best.
  • 1 tablespoon butter For cooking, additional butter may be needed.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a wide shallow dish, whisk the eggs and milk until smooth and well blended.
  • Place a few bread slices into the mixture at a time. Let them soak for about 2 minutes, then turn and soak the other side for another 2 minutes.

Cooking

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Lift the soaked bread out, allowing the excess mixture to drip off, then place it in the pan.
  • Cook for around 2 minutes per side, or until golden and lightly crisp.
  • Continue with the rest of the bread, adding more butter to the pan as needed.

Serving

  • Serve right away with any toppings you like.

Notes

For a gourmet touch, use toppings such as maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
