Main Ingredients

  • 300 g granulated sugar, plus a little extra for topping
  • 50 g cocoa powder
  • 400 g plain flour
  • 300 g margarine or butter, melted

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 170°C (150°C fan / 340°F / Gas 3½) and line a 20 x 25cm (8 x 10in) baking tin with baking paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and plain flour until evenly mixed.
  • Add the melted margarine or butter and stir with a spoon or spatula until a thick, firm dough forms.
  • Press the dough evenly into the prepared tin, flattening it down with your hands or the back of a spoon.
  • Lightly brush the surface with a little water, then scatter some extra sugar over the top.

Baking

  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the surface feels set but still yields slightly when pressed.
  • Allow to cool fully in the tin before slicing into 16 bars.

Notes

These chocolate bars can be enjoyed straight from the oven or dressed up with toppings like whipped cream or seasonal fruits. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
