Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups warm water Must be warm, not hot.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Boiling and Toppings

  • 0.5 cups baking soda For boiling.
  • 1 egg Beaten, for brushing.
  • Coarse sea salt For sprinkling on top.
  • Colored sprinkles For decoration.

Preparation

  • Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour and salt; stir until a dough forms.
  • Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth; let rise in a greased bowl covered with a cloth for 1 hour or until doubled.

Cooking

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Boil 4 cups of water and add baking soda.
  • Divide dough, roll into ropes, shape into pretzels.
  • Boil pretzels in the baking soda water for 30 seconds.
  • Transfer to a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt and colored sprinkles.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
  • Cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Store leftover pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or refrigerate for a week. Freeze for longer storage.
