Main Ingredients

  • 225 g unsalted butter, softened Use high-quality butter for better flavor.
  • 115 g granulated sugar Plus 2 extra tablespoons for topping.
  • 320 g plain flour Measure accurately to avoid a dense texture.
  • 120 g chocolate chips Use dark or milk chocolate, or mix them.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / 350°F and line a 20 cm square baking tin with baking paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine softened butter, sugar, and flour. Rub together with fingertips until crumbly.
  • Stir in 90 g of the chocolate chips and ensure they are evenly distributed.
  • Press the dough into the prepared tin evenly using your hands or the back of a spoon.
  • Scatter remaining chocolate chips on top and press them in gently. Sprinkle with extra sugar.

Baking

  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until edges are lightly golden and top feels set but slightly soft.
  • Cool completely in the tin before slicing into 16 bars or squares.

Notes

Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
