  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Other cheese varieties can be used.

Batter Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Bisquick or all-purpose baking mix Substitute with all-purpose flour mixed with baking powder if needed.
  • 1 cup milk Use whole milk for a richer flavor.
  • 2 large eggs

  • ketchup For serving.
  • mustard For serving.
  • pickles For serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is tender.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  • Season the ground beef mixture with salt and black pepper.
  • Spread the beef mixture evenly into a greased 9-inch pie dish.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese generously over the beef mixture.

Batter Preparation

  • In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the Bisquick, milk, and eggs until combined smoothly without lumps.
  • Pour the batter over the meat and cheese layer in the pie dish.

Baking

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the pie rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Serving

  • Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, or pickles as desired.

Notes

For a more nutritious version, consider adding vegetables like bell peppers or spinach into the beef mixture before pouring over the batter. This pie can be made ahead of time; just store cooked pie in the refrigerator for up to three days or freeze portions in a freezer-safe container.
