Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • Place butter in an 8×8-inch baking dish and let it melt in the oven.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Pour in the buttermilk and mix just until combined. The dough will be sticky.
  • Carefully remove the hot dish with melted butter from the oven.
  • Spoon the biscuit dough into the baking dish and gently spread it out evenly.
  • Use a knife to score the dough into 9 squares.

Baking

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the top is golden and edges are crisp.
  • Cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For a sweeter twist, serve with honey or syrup. Store in an airtight container or freeze for longer storage.
