Ingredients
  

Brownie Base

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 stick / 115g
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar packed, 100g
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar 100g
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 60g
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 40g
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks (optional, 4 ounces)

Preparation

  • Place butter in a large bowl and heat in your microwave or on a double boiler until melted.
  • Add brown sugar and granulated sugar to the hot butter and whisk to incorporate.
  • Add room temperature eggs and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and whisk until well combined.
  • Fold in flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  • Pour the batter into a prepared baking dish and smooth it out.
  • Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean with a few wet crumbs.
  • Allow the brownie to cool in the baking dish for 10 to 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.
  • Slice your brownies and serve.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, or top with melted chocolate, nuts, or whipped cream. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or refrigerate or freeze for longer storage.
