Ingredients

For the Sauce

  • 3/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup oyster sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey (you can also use brown sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon browning sauce (optional)

For the Beef

  • 1 pound steak, sliced (flank steak or sirloin recommended)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup onions, diced
  • 1/8 cup garlic, diced
  • 1/8 cup ginger, diced
  • 16 ounces broccoli
  • 16 ounces noodles (spaghetti suggested)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cook your noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the ingredients for the sauce: soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, rice wine vinegar, and browning (if using).
  • In another bowl, whisk together the cold water and cornstarch to make a slurry. Slowly add the slurry into the soy sauce mixture and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, add the sliced beef, soy sauce, cornstarch, rice wine vinegar, and ginger powder. Stir together until the beef is coated all over.

Cooking

  • Add the sesame oil to a hot wok and sear the beef until cooked to your preference. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • In the same wok, add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until fragrant.
  • Then add broccoli florets and cooked noodles to the wok. Stir-fry on high heat until the broccoli is tender.
  • Gradually add the sauce to your dish while constantly mixing to ensure that it is evenly incorporated.
  • Add the beef back in and cook all of the ingredients together until warmed through.
  • Serve hot.

Notes

Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein Noodles are best served warm, straight from the stove, plated elegantly. Garnish with sesame seeds or thinly sliced green onions. This dish pairs well with a light side like a cucumber salad or spring rolls.
