  • 2 medium-sized ripe bananas Ensure they are overripe for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional) For added chocolate flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
  • Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter to the mashed bananas. Mix well until combined.
  • Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until everything is well incorporated.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the banana mixture using a rubber spatula until just combined.
  • If using, gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a few moist crumbs are okay).
  • Let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerated for a week. They can also be frozen for up to three months.
