Ingredients
  

For the patties

  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
  • 1 large Egg (Beaten)
  • 1 medium Onion (Finely diced)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper

For the gravy

  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (For thickening gravy)
  • 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 medium Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Instructions
 

Prepare the Patties

  • In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, finely diced onion, salt, and black pepper.
  • Form the mixture into 6 to 8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest.

Brown the Patties

  • Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium heat and add a bit of oil or butter.
  • Brown the patties for about 3–4 minutes on each side until they develop a golden crust.
  • Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside to keep warm.

Make the Gravy

  • In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions in 3 tablespoons of butter until tender.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir for about 2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Bake the Dish

  • Nestle the browned patties back into the skillet, ensuring they are covered with the gravy.
  • Cover the skillet tightly and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  • Allow to rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles for best flavor.
