Ingredients
  

For the Patties

  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
  • 1 large Egg (Beaten)
  • 1 medium Onion (Finely diced)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper

For the Gravy

  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted) To sauté onions
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour For thickening gravy
  • 2 cups Beef broth Low sodium preferred
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 large Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, finely diced onion, salt, and black pepper. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Form the mixture into 6 to 8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest.

Cooking

  • Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium heat and add a bit of oil or butter. Brown the patties for about 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Remove the patties from the skillet and keep warm.
  • In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions in 3 tablespoons of butter until tender and fragrant.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir for about 2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth and heavy cream until smooth and creamy.
  • Nestle the browned patties back into the skillet, ensuring they are covered with gravy.
  • Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  • Let the dish rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Pair with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles to soak up the gravy. Fresh vegetables or a salad can add a refreshing contrast.
